You are Crossing a Threshold. What’s your focus?
There is an opportunity for unique individual change happening with this experience of COVID-19. We are on the threshold of a new beginning. There will be gains and there will be losses.
What is your focus? The gains? The losses? Or the opportunity for new experiences?
If you are canoeing for the first time, you don’t know what to expect, right? You focus on what you know — the way the canoe wobbles when you step inside and how you might fall over. Or worse, you worry about tipping the canoe over. If that happens all will be lost. The food and drinks will fall in the river, not to mention you and those you’re with.
Before you’ve pushed off from the shore you’ve created a scenario of expectation that includes all your main fears about canoeing. You forgot to look to the river and all of nature that lies beyond the threshold of your canoe. You just focused on what can go wrong.
We tend to focus on what we fear so that we will be ready when surprise hits. Were we ready for this pandemic?
After all the planning for the bad things that can happen and all that can go wrong, the pandemic still took most of us by surprise.
